Al-Shabab attack in Kampala

A flurry of emails and facebook posts on Monday confirmed that everyone I know is safe. Our internet has been on the fritz since Monday (unrelated to the attack — I’m in the next country over — though I’ve heard that internet in Kampala has been haywire all week) so I haven’t posted anything about it.

Rather than say anything else, I should just quote Texas in Africa:

If everything you know about Somalia you learned from Black Hawk Down, it’s probably best that you stop providing commentary.

I might know a little more than that, but the point is well-taken. I would highly recommend reading the full post for more commentary on Somalia and relevant American foreign policy.

The update from the local press is that al-Shabab has threatened more attacks, but Uganda’s government is still willing to send more troops to Somalia.
